URBAN LEGENDS ABOUND

URBAN LEGENDS ABOUND

When you find out from the internet or in your email that somebody famous passed away, just before you share it on FB or Twitter, check first the accuracy in Urban Legends or scopes.com or Google it.

Or, it can be damn embarrassing to say the least. Sometimes if you get sued it will deplete your pocketbook.

And it applies to me too. Recently, a famous actor and TV host Hugh Laurie was rumoured dead on a tweat I read. While chatting with a friend in person about recent news, I mentioned to him that Laurie is dead.

I told him "Laurie tried a Viagra-like tablet and even shared it with Dr. Phil, the medic on TV." And I told my friend I better check first if this is just a hoax. I googled it on my Smartphone.  Lo and behold, the hoax verifier  websites say that it is not true. I had to say "sorry" to my friend.

Just last year some famous people rumoured dead on Snopes.com included Kirk Douglas, the Presidential daughter Sasha Obama, Imelda Marcos and Hillary Clinton. All hoaxes acording to Snopes. Snopes also can confirm if a rumour is true.

Nowadays even politicians like Donald Trump are scrutinized for their speeches including the State of the Union. Newspapers like New York Times and Washington Post "fact check" his asertions and declarations. Trump also has his own list of "fake news" papers. Living in today's world makes it imperative to always not believe everything that you read. Check and double check information and news.

You have to keep an eye on the source of the news. Bigger media Companies like Associated Press, UK's BBC and Canada's CBC in general cn be trusted. No one can say 100% trusted anymore. Sometimes they can make mistakes too. They are quick to admit it and correct the wrong information right away. And if the source is a small news company or so so website, just ignore them. The big media outlets will be the ones reporting major news in social media.

The Corpus Christi hoax has been there since 1984. Snopes.com says there is no movie made and no plans to make a movie about an alleged homosexual Jesus Christ.
